  • This event is for the entertainment of the Grandstand spectators, advertising value, a traveling trophy and bragging rights.
  • Creative decoration and detailing of the busses is strongly encouraged.
  • Sponsors/Drivers are urged to communicate with the Fair staff well prior to the event to ensure that the bus is safe to run and that the show is exciting and safe for spectators and participants.

Bus Safety rules

  • The Derby Officials will inspect all school busses for safety hazards. PLEASE contact us with your ideas, questions or concerns well prior to the event.
  • The rear frame must be cut bluntly 4 feet from the rear bumper to eliminate the possibility of impaling other drivers on the exposed frame.
  • Bars or other substantial reinforcement must be installed in front of the driver to prevent the steering column from being forced down or back into the driver's lap. Steering wheel displacement has caused several drivers to have grave concerns about their personal safety and future family life.
  • It is strongly advised that the bumper be cut or modified to protect the steering box.
  • Several buses have had a failure of the entire roof structure. A pipe frame over the driver is suggested but not required.
  • Common sense applies-  Driver must wear a helmet, and other personal protection is strongly advised. NO RIDERS. Fuel tanks, batteries, etc. must be secured safely inside the bus. Original equipment tanks should be removed or otherwise modified to prevent explosion. All glass and any pointy objects must be removed from the driver area. Parts that may fall off and be a danger to the event are to be removed or secured in a sensible manner. The Fair reserves the right to request modifications for the safety of drivers, other participants or spectators. Please contact the fair office for detailed safety information.
  • All Fair Derby rules of conduct, behavior and safety will apply. The Fair Event Judges reserve the right to "disqualify" any bus for safety reasons should they feel that continued operation may endanger spectator or participant safety.

 NO  COOLERS!

Beer and other alcoholic are available in our infield Beer Garden and at other selected locations.

Persons bringing their own beer will be escorted off of the fairgrounds!
